Reuters reported that Formosa Ha Tinh Steel, one of the biggest investment projects in Vietnam, admitted responsibility for the massive fish deaths along Vietnam’s coast in April.

The BBC said Taiwan has publicly apologized to the Vietnamese government and people for causing the environmental disaster and has agreed to compensate all economic losses and address the environmental consequences. The BBC quoted Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha as saying that besides paying monetary compensation, Formosa Ha Tinh Steel must upgrade its production line and technology.

Other news agencies, including VOA, AP, and Sputnik, said the Vietnamese government has confirmed Formosa’s responsibility.
