Turkey could hold referendum on EU membership bid

(VOVworld) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Monday that Turkey might hold a referendum on its long-stalled EU membership bid now that Turks have voted to expand Erdogan's powers in a plebiscite. Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern issued a forthright message ruling out any future accession to the EU by Turkey, saying Turkey’s membership prospects are dead and buried. Many European leaders have expressed strong opposition to the reinstatement of Turkey’s death penalty.
