(VOVworld) - In his message for the International Day of Families on May 15th, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called on governments to help each member of each family, regardless of age, to realize their potential and contribute to the world’s sustainable development.

He urged governments, businesses, institutions, and other partners to recognize that care-giving is an essential part of family life, outline policies to create a good family environment for development, and support parents in raising their children.
Themed “Families, healthy lives, and a sustainable future”, this year’s event promoted healthy lives and social welfare for people of all ages. Activities for the day focused on the family environment, balancing work and family to improve the health of all family members, and the role of parents in youth and children's well-being.
