(VOVworld) - United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned against abandoning the idea of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, saying there is no alternative.

At Wednesday’s press conference during his visit to Cairo, he said everything should be done to preserve that goal. His statement came after a White House official said peace did not necessarily have to entail Palestinian statehood, and the US would not try to dictate a solution.

Hanan Ashrawi, a senior member of the Palestine Liberation Organization, condemned the US official’s remarks, saying that it was an irresponsible policy.
