The spokesman for the advance team of UN observers Neeraj Singh, said that the group had visited two regions in the centre of the country and established contact with all parties there. Neeraj Singh said the team visited Hama province and the town of Rastan near flashpoint Homs province. A day earlier, the UN Security Council unanimously decided to approve the deployment of up to 300 unarmed UN military observers to Syria to monitor the fragile ceasefire between Syrian government forces and opposition fighters. The task assigned to the UN observers, said Singh, is to establish contact with all the concerned parties in the conflict-torn country and make logistic arrangements. The advance team of international observers arrived last week after Syria accepted the UN-backed truce to solve the crisis politically. Since their arrival, the violence has to some extent decreased; however, attacks and deaths are still being reported on a daily basis.
