(VOVworld) – Sam Kutesa, UN General Assembly President has confirmed the “important improvements” made on the ground following recent frontline reports from Guinea and Liberia suggesting significant decreases in Ebola infection rates. But, he warned, while the number of new cases was slowing down, the total number across the region still remained perilously high.
Addressing Thursday’s informal briefing at the UN General Assembly on the international community’s response to the Ebola outbreak, Kutesa stressed that a scaling-up in the overall response remains necessary if the deadly outbreak is to be fully stopped.

In related news, 80 US military personnel have been isolated after they returned home from a mission to help to fight the Ebola outbreak in Liberia. They will be housed for 21 days of monitoring and receive medical check-ups twice a day although none of them are currently showing signs of the deadly virus.
