US Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken to visit Vietnam

(VOVworld) - Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan on Monday received US Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who is on an official visit to Viet Nam. Ngan said that Vietnam National Assembly will ratify some of the important Laws after the 2013 Constitution came into effect, where all Laws related to protecting human’s rights will soon be applied. She said that Vietnam always attaches importance to promote comprehensive strategic partnership in the spirit of the joint statement by Vietnam and the US.

On the same day, Blinken met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh, to review the developments of bilateral comprehensive partnership set up in July 2013. Both discussed preparations for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries and Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's visit to the US scheduled for this year. He suggested that the US should continue to work closely with Viet Nam to deepen the comprehensive partnership for the benefits of the two nations and for peace, stability and cooperation in the region.

Deputy Prime Minsiter Pham Binh Minh reiterated Viet Nam’s will to conclude the Trans-Pacific Partnership and expressed his hope that the US Congress would soon grant trade promotion authority to the US President to beef up the talks process.

The Deputy Secretary of State showed his pleasure to visit Viet Nam in the context of growing ties between the two countries in a positive and substantial manner. He affirmed that the US attaches importance to the upcoming visit of Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong.
