(VOVworld) – US Secretary of State John Kerry discussed with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in New York on Sunday to the increasing threat posed by Islamic State militants (IS) in Syria and Iraq and the progress of Iranian nuclear negotiations.

Kerry said that Iran and the US played the same role in seeking members to join the coalition against IS. However, both sides ruled out the possibility of coordinating military efforts against IS. Among the US’s closest allies, France has announced its participation in air strikes against IS. Germany will not participate in the air strike campaign but will send weapons to Kurdish soldiers in Iraq.
