(VOVworld) – US President Donald Trump will attend summits in Vietnam and the Philippines in November, Vice President Mike Pence said in Jakarta during a visit to the headquarters of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on Thursday.

After a meeting with Secretary General Le Luong Minh and other officials, Pence congratulated ASEAN on its 40^th anniversary, and the 40^th anniversary of US-ASEAN diplomatic relations. He said the Trump administration will cooperate with ASEAN in security, trade, and freedom of navigation in the East Sea.“We’ll continue to work closely with ASEAN to promote peace and stability in the South China Sea by upholding a rules-based order, ensuring a lawful flow of commerce, and encouraging a peaceful and diplomatic resolution of disputes.”
