(VOVworld) - A former member of the US National Guard was arrested on July 3 for allegedly attempting to assist IS.
The Department of Justice said that Mohamad Bailor Jalloh, 26, tried to assist IS to get weapons "to be used in what he believed was going to be an attack on US soil".
Last week, Jalloh allegedly purchased an assault rifle from a gun dealer in northern Virginia, although the weapon was "rendered inoperable before he left the dealership with the weapon".
A source told the FBI that Jalloh said that it was better to plan an operation for the month of Ramadan, which concluded on July 3. Jalloh of Sierra Leone origin has been charged with attempting to provide material support and resources to a designated foreign terrorist organization and faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison if convicted.
