More than 1,000 delegates will participate in the event, representing people from all walks of life, religions, economic sectors, and the overseas Vietnamese community. Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong will deliver a key speech at the opening ceremony.

During the 3-day meeting, the congress will approve a report by the Front’s Central Committee for the 2009-2014 term and an action plan until 2019, revise and supplement the Front’s charter, the committee’s consultation in the next five years, and adopt the congress’ resolutions. Vu Trong Kim, Deputy President and Secretary General of the Front’s Central Committee, said: “the congress will issue a declaration explaining the country’s situations and call on people from all walks of life to unite in national construction and defense during the new period. The Front will do its utmost to fulfill the role of representing and protecting people’s legitimate rights as set out in the 2013 Constitution. The Front will shoulder the additional duty of mobilizing the people to participate in building a firm and transparent Party and government. Monitoring and social criticism are the Front’s new responsibilities. We hope the congress will reach a consensus on the action plan and renovate means of operation to develop a strong Party and prosperous government.
