Venezuela, US seek to improve ties

(VOVworld) – Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro and US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon held talks on Wednesday in Caracas, Venezuela, to re-start negotiations which could help improve bilateral ties.

President Maduro reiterated Venezuela’s willingness to establish the relationship with the US based on mutual respect and understanding, adding Caracas’s roadmap for bilateral dialogue has been sent to US President Barack Obama.

On June 14th, following a meeting with Venezuela's Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez, US Secretary of State John Kerry said both countries agreed on resuming talks to improve ties. He also said that Washington didn’t back the removal of Venezuela from the Organization of American States (OAS) and OAS Secretary General’s bid to impose OAS Democratic Charter on Venezuela.
