At a reception in Hanoi on Monday for the visiting Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi, Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong underlined the need to consolidate and boost relations between Vietnam and China. He said it was a common responsibility for both sides and went along with the fundamental and long-term benefits of the two peoples as well as regional and global peace and stability. Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong asked the Vietnam-China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation to further uphold its guiding role in boosting friendship and the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and China.

At a meeting with visiting Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi, Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang urged the two countries to focus on effectively implementing agreements signed by their senior leaders, including the Action Program on the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic partnership, urgently establish a Working group on infrastructure cooperation and a Working group on monetary cooperation to increase bilateral cooperation in related fields, and boost economic trade ties. The President highlighted the importance of maritime issues in bilateral ties. He said this was of concern not only between the two Parties and States but also between the two peoples. Unless the two Parties and State practiced restraint, their relationship would be impacted and as would feelings between the two peoples.

Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi said the Chinese Party and State treasured and wished to boost the neighborliness and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam. He stressed the reasonable settlement of disputes would meet the two people’s interests and have a positive impact on stability and development in the region.
