Vietnam, Cuba celebrate 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties

(VOVworld) – The Voice of Vietnam hosted a ceremony in Hanoi to mark the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba and Cuba’s Giron Victory 54 years ago.

Addressing the celebration, VOV President Nguyen Dang Tien praised “the Giron victory in 1961 as one of Cuba’s proudest and most glorious triumphs. The sound leadership and inspired military tactics of Commander-in-chief Fidel Castro and the courage of the Cuban people made the revolution a success. The victory was not only important to Cuba’s struggle for national independence, but also a great encouragement to national liberation movements around the world, including Vietnam’s.

Mr. Tien congratulated Cuba on its achievements and development in recent years with the most recent event being Cuba and the US moving toward reestablishing diplomatic ties and lifting a decades-old embargo on Cuba.

Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Herminio Lopez Diaz underscored the solidarity Vietnamese people have with Cubans, calling it a precious asset.

Ambassador Herminio said: “Vietnam’s experiences in its renewal process continue to be a valuable reference for Cuba. We’re proud of the fine relationship between the two Parties, governments, and peoples over the past years. We believe that Cuba’s application of a new economic model under which a new law on foreign investment was adopted last year will create many promising opportunities for strengthening economic and trade relations and cooperation with Vietnam.
