At the seminar, policy makers, economists, and businesspeople of the two countries discussed effective measures to boost their economic cooperation. Participants said Germany is Vietnam's largest trade partner in the EU and EU’s fifth biggest investor in Vietnam with more than 600 projects worth 1.4 billion USD, although the two-way trade and turnover does not match the two countries’ potentials.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Doan Xuan Hung said German businesses have not been well informed of the Vietnamese market and its potentials.

Uwe Beckmeyer, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, called for efforts by both sides to reach the goal of 20 billion USD trade turnover by 2021.
