(VOVworld) – Vietnam’s recent election to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the 2016-2018 tenure is significant to Vietnam’s international integration process, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh told the press on Thursday. He said the ECOSOC membership shows Vietnam has gained international credibility and acknowledgments for national construction and development achievements as well as contributions to peace and development in the region and the world. He said: "This is attributed to Vietnam’s successful implementation of UN Millennium Development Goals. The election indicates Vietnam’s rising prestige and UN countries’ expectations that Vietnam will make more contributions to UN decision-making on socio-economic policies."

Minh said Vietnam will work with the 53 other ECOSOC members to monitor, assess and design measures to carry out development goals until 2030.Minh said: "The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was approved by world leaders at a UN summit last September. Now Vietnam and other UN nations need to turn those targets into national strategies and plans to realize them."
