(VOVworld) – A seminar was held in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday to speed up poverty reduction toward sustainability and set directions for policy reform on social support by 2020.
Participants put forward solutions in managing lists of poor households and reasons behind poverty to offer appropriate supportive measures. They agreed that assistance should be accompanied to improve awareness in production, market access, encouraging the poor to exercise self-control in escaping poverty, and outlining more policies to help near-poor households and households newly-escaped from poverty be lifted out of poverty sustainably. Do Manh Hung, Deputy head of the National Assembly’s Commission on Social Affairs, said: “We should change public awareness through communications, education, and inspections by authorities at various levels. On top of developing more policies, we should develop more options for them. Poverty is not only a matter of income, but is also a consequence of the social system in terms of living conditions, education, healthcare, and information.
