Vietnam attends 24th Global Summit of Women in Paris

(VOVworld) – Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan says sustainable development is not possible without the efforts of women and gender equality. In her speech at the opening ceremony of the 24th Global Summit of Women (GSW) in Paris on Thursday, Madam Doan highlighted Vietnam’s achievements in socio-economic development and the contributions of Vietnamese women to economic restructuring, growth model changes, and improving the national economy’s capacity and competitiveness.

The summit has drawn more than 1,200 delegates from 81 countries. The 50-member Vietnamese delegation was led by Vice President Doan. Irene Natividad, President of the Global Summit of Women 2014, praised Vietnam’s participation at this year event:“Since Vietnam participated in the summit in 2011, Vietnamese delegations of outstanding businesswomen have made many contributions to the event. This involvement has proved that Vietnam has made progress in promoting the role women.”

The same day, Vice President Doan met with Patrice Bessac, Secretary of the French Communist Party and Montreuil’s governor, and paid a floral tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his monument in Montreuil city.
