Attended by President Truong Tan Sang, the program called for support from businesses and generous people for functional agencies and disadvantaged families in border and island regions. In his address, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh said Vietnam is determined to safeguard its territorial waters, including Hoang Sa and Truong Sa islands:
“The steering committee for the South-western region and localities should improve public awareness of the role and potential of border regions and islands in national construction and defense. Border guards, marine police, fisheries resources surveillance forces, the navy, and armed forces must be updated to protect the national airspace and territorial waters.”
More than 6.2 million USD was raised at the program.
