(VOVworld) – Vietnam will join the world community in observing the annual Earth Hour on Saturday. Conveying information about Earth Hour to youth unions at the grass roots level and their families is a new initiative of the Youth Union of Quang Ninh province. Other Earth Hour activities include using recycled items, reducing the use of nylon bags and unplugging electrical devices when leaving the house or at night. Hoang Ba Nam, Secretary of Quang Ninh province’s Youth Union says 'Participation in Earth Hour helps respond to climate change and save energy in daily activities. The campaign will raise the level of awareness of youth union members, who will spread the word to others. Through Earth Hour activities, we hope to make youths a vanguard in the environmental movement'.

Dao Van Tuyen is in charge of Communications and Education for the Youth Union of Thanh Hoa province 'Youth union members will tell local people and enterprises how important Earth Hour is. Then, we’ll organize a meeting in Thanh Hoa city and switch the electricity off for an hour'.

Vietnam ranks among the world’s 5 most vulnerable countries to climate change. It has observed Earth Hour since 2009.
