Vietnamese, Chinese officials discuss security cooperation and economic issues

(VOVworld) - Vietnam and China have pledged to strengthen practical security cooperation as one pillar of their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

The consensus was reached during separate meetings on Wednesday between Politburo member and Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang—who is escorting Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on his official China visit—and Politburo member and Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee’s Commission for Political and Legal Affairs Meng Jianzhu, Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun, and Minister of State Security, Geng Huichang. Minister Quang stressed that the Vietnamese Ministry attaches special importance to its security cooperation with Chinese law enforcement agencies.

The same day, Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh accepted Chairman of the National Development and Reform of China Xu Shaoshi’s invitation to return to China to realize infrastructure commitments signed in a memorandum of understanding on establishing a Working Group on road infrastructure. In a separate working session, Minister Vinh and his host Minister Gao reviewed the progress of the 2012-2016 master plan for Vietnam-China socio-economic development and pledged to hold a meeting to choose key projects to add to their portfolios.

Minister of Planning and Investment Vu Huy Hoang and Chinese Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng also reached consensus on initiatives to boost bilateral economic, trade and industrial cooperation during their working session in Beijing on Wednesday.
