Courageous in struggle – daring in production

(VOVworld) – 15 years ago, war veteran Nguyen Hung Cuong in Tuy Loc commune, Yen Bai province borrowed loans to build a recycling workshop, generating jobs for the many children of war veterans in the area. Thua Xuan profiles the war veteran who is courageous in struggle and daring in production:

Cuong joined the army when he was 18 and fought on different battlefields across the nation. When the southern region was liberated and the nation was reunited, he left the army and returned to his home village to settle. Facing many daily difficulties, he decided to borrow approximately 5,000 USD to build a recycling workshop. Cuong said: “Life was very difficult when I left the army. I tried my best to increase my family’s income. Recycling waste helps to clean the environment and generate jobs for children of a number of war veterans in the area.”

Each day, Cuong’s workshop recycles 1 tonne of plastic waste, which is distributed to companies in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city and even shipped to China. He also raises fish, pigs, and chickens, which earns him a stable revenue of 12,000 USD a year. Life has become better and his 5 children are now working in state agencies. Cuong now employs 10 workers who are children of his comrades. Phung Thi Vui is one of them: “We used to do farm work and life was very difficult. Thanks to Mr. Cuong’s workshop, we’ve found a job with a stable income.”

Cuong has been very enthusiastic in community and charitable activities as well as new rural development. He was elected deputy head of the local war veterans’ association and a member of the executive committee of the local elderly association. Nguyen Duc Luan, Chairman of Tuy Loc commune’s People’s Committee, said: “Mr. Cuong’s business model is well-known. His family is a role model in the movement to build new rural areas.”

Cuong has been presented with many certificates of merit for the achievements of his business model.
