50th anniversary of the first triumph of the Vietnam People’s Navy marked

(VOVworld)- The Navy Service on Sunday organized a ceremony in memory of heroic martyrs and people who sacrificed their lives in the fight against American Maddox destroyer and warplanes in Cua Luc sea, Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province on August 2 and 5, 1964.

This was the Vietnam People’s Navy’s first victory against the devastating war of the US imperialists in northern Vietnam. On Saturday, an art program praising the significance of the victory was held in Quang Ninh province with the participation of war veterans. Major General, Admiral and Deputy Political Commissar of the Navy Service Dinh Gia That said that victory on August 2 and 5, 1964 was of great historical significance opening a new page in Vietnam’s Navy Service’s history: “The first victory on August 2 and 5, 1964 of the Vietnam People’s Navy and northern Vietnamese civilians and soldiers created a drastic change in terms of spirit and determination. Despite the enemy’s modern warplanes and warships, the Vietnamese naval force cooperated with other forces and people in the north to combat them. We chased the Maddox destroyer out of Vietnamese sea. Though it was strong, the US failed because it was an unjust war”.

On Sunday, the Liaison Committee of veteran naval soldiers of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces organized a meeting to mark the event. They recalled their memories and historical significance of the victory and discussed lessons learned. The Navy Command Committee presented insignia to representatives of the war veterans and gifts to history witnesses and families of martyrs.
