A workshop took place in Hanoi on Tuesday to discuss communications on Vietnam’s sea, islands and border demarcation to the world community. Participants said that Vietnam’s external, defense and security relations with regional countries, particularly with China, Laos and Cambodia are based on the principles of equality, long-term cooperation and mutual benefit. Regarding the East Sea issue, they agreed that there should be a consensus from central to local agencies, especially in external communications. It’s also necessary to establish more Vietnamese cultural centers in other countries. Bui The Duc, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission on Communications and Education stressed: “We’ll draw experiences from this year’s activities to improve the quality of information targeting overseas Vietnamese and the international community. Vietnam is determined to safeguard national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity while preserving friendship and cooperation with regional countries.”

Major topics for discussions included security in the land border areas between Vietnam and China, Cambodia and Laos following the planting of border markers and state management on the sea and islands. A similar workshop will be held in the southern region later this week.
