Constitutional changes deemed necessary for comprehensive renewal process

(VOVworld)-Senior lawmakers have stressed the need to revise the Constitution to meet the requirements of national development, the socialist-oriented market economy and international integration. The Editorial Board on drafting amendments to the Constitution met in Hanoi on Wednesday and agreed that the 1992 Constitution created the legal foundation for the renewal process but amendments are necessary in various aspects, including economic infrastructure, state and superstructure institution, culture, social affairs, science and technology and human rights. The legislators said the revised Constitution should provide the solid basis and a new driving force for national construction and defense, thus boosting the renewal process and further institutionalizing the concept of democracy and people’s right to mastery. It also aims to ensure national unity, reaffirm the Party leadership, make full use of human resources, respect human rights and fine-tune the law-governed state of Vietnam.
