The event was held by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the British embassy. Delegates agreed that Vietnam’s laws are compatible with most of the intellectual property commitments in the agreement so in principle no major adjustments are needed. First Secretary of the British embassy in Vietnam Andrew Holt said: “Vietnam has demonstrated its intention to integrate into the world economy. The implementation of the EU-Vietnam FTA will boost trade, investment, and economic growth in all 28 EU member states. But the implementation of intellectual property rights remains a big challenge for domestic and foreign businesses in Vietnam.”

The EU-Vietnam FTA will come into force in 2018.
