(VOVworld) - The 15th Shangri La dialogue has closed in Singapore following the last session on joint security objectives.

Addressing this year’s dialogue, Deputy Defense Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh warned of complicated potential matters threatening regional security requiring timely prevention and settlement.

Regarding the East Sea issues where Vietnam, and several ASEAN members had territorial claims with pending disputes and differences with China, Deputy Defense Minister Vinh upheld Vietnam’s determination to persistently protect its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, navigation and aviation security by peaceful means in line with international law.

Meanwhile, cooperation with China and related countries should be promoted to build and consolidate trust, seek for common strategic interests and candidly voice views on constructive manner towards accepted solutions for all related parties in compliance with international law and practices for peace and stability. 

Head of the Chinese delegation, Chinese Admiral  Sun Jianguo  said China is seeking for mutual understanding and concession in disputes with other countries, including disputes in the East Sea.  

French Defense Minister Jean Yves Le Drian confirmed the validity of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea in settling the East Sea dispute while praising the importance of the Code of Conduct for Parties in the East Sea towards practical achievements in negotiation and implementation of the Declaration on Conduct of Parties in the East Sea in earnest.
