IPU 132 is a success, said Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung at a press conference

The success of the Assembly demonstrated the IPU’s active participation and strong voice on the global political stage. Speaking at a media conference on Wednesday, Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, who is also President of the IPU 132 said the theme “Sustainable Development Goals: Turning Words into Action” had been highly applauded by parliamentarians. Over the past 5 days, the delegates adopted 4 draft resolutions concerning cyber warfare, water resource management, international law, national sovereignty, human rights and anti-terrorism. IPU President Saber Choudhury praised Vietnam’s contributions to the success of the IPU 132: “We would like to identify the Hanoi Assembly as the Assembly where we have had this change in mindset and perspectives. The other important aspect that I want to share with you is the Hanoi Declaration. It’s called Hanoi Declaration for a number of reasons: It was proposed by our Vietnamese host- the National Assembly of Vietnam actually proposed this theme. It’s being adopted in Hanoi and It will be the contribution, the gift and legacy of Vietnam to the entire world. This is what we have adopted in Vietnam”.

In response to reporters’ question on how the Hanoi Declaration will impact the Vietnamese National Assembly, Mr. Hung said:“The Vietnamese National Assembly will review and build laws in close association with Millennium Development Goals and Action Programs focusing on the people. Vietnam’s National Assembly is focused on encouraging the government, local administrations and people to take action to implement Millennium Development Goals”.

A meeting to celebrate the success of IPU 132 will be held in Hanoi on the same day.
