“Millions of hearts toward the homeland’s sea and islands” festival

(VOVworld) – The Vietnam Youth Federation in Ho Chi Minh city launched the “Millions of hearts toward the homeland’s sea and islands” festival on Saturday.

The festival included various activities such as sending short messages to raise fund for the sea and islands’ campaign, photo exhibitions, and screening documentaries on the homeland’s sea and islands and art performances on Vietnam’s national sovereignty. The highlight of the festival was a contest about Vietnam’s sea and islands where the participants showed their knowledge about Vietnam’s marine laws and regulations related to national territorial sovereignty in the East Sea. The festival was part of practical activities to inspire patriotism among young people and got them involved in defending Vietnam’s sea and islands sovereignty.
Young people in Ho Chi Minh city have participated in practical activities to promote their role in protecting national waters sovereignty. Kieu Dao Thu Vy, a guide at the Ho Chi Minh City’s Historical Museum, said: “As a docent, I tell what I know about Vietnam’s sea and islands to tourists including young people. As a member of the Youth Union, I participate in activities toward Vietnam’s sea and islands, Hoang Sa, and Truong Sa. As a Vietnamese citizen, I have to contribute by youth and knowledge to the nation.”

People in Ho Chi Minh city donated 700 million VND to the marine police and marine resources surveillance forces. On this occasion, the Tuoi Tre (Young Age) newspaper granted 350 scholarships to the children of soldiers and staff of the Department of Fisheries Resources Surveillance and Marine Police forces and fishermen in the Central region. 5,000 USD were also presented to the Fisheries Resources Surveillance force.
