Over the past 10 years, thanks to Resolution 36 and State policies, affairs relating to overseas Vietnamese have been improved. Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said that the government is working out incentives and mechanisms to encourage overseas Vietnamese to further contribute to the homeland: “It is important to treasure our diasporas’ resources, eliminate all barriers between overseas Vietnamese and Vietnamese people at home in policy making, create open legal corridors to facilitate overseas Vietnamese to invest and settle in and promote their contribution to the homeland”.

Delegates at the conference expressed their hope that the Party and State would specify policies on investment, immigration procedures, land and house purchases and especially the Law on Nationality to encourage overseas Vietnamese to contribute more to the homeland. Most recently, the government approved the Ministry of Justice’s proposal on extending the period for overseas Viennese to hold the Vietnamese nationality to 5 years more until July 1st, 2019.
