Transport Minister explains measures to tackle traffic problems

Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang addressed a series of public concerns in a live radio show on Tuesday. Over Radio the Voice of Vietnam, Minister Thang answered the audience's questions relating to the proposal to levy traffic fees on personal vehicles and fees for cars entering the city center during peak hours. The initiative is considered an urgent measure to minimize traffic accidents and congestion in big cities including Hanoi, Hai Phong, HCM city, Da Nang, and Can Tho. Minister Thang elaborates: “The National Committee of Traffic Safety has stressed the urgent need to submit to the National Assembly measures to solve traffic problems. The measures include additional fees for personal vehicles and traffic fees for vehicles entering the city center in peak hours. We have taken into consideration related legal documents, the real situation in our country and regional and international experience on this matter”. Minister Thang stresses that the plan needs public consensus before coming into effect.
