Vietnam and the European Union share experience in freedom of religion

(VOVworld) - The Government’s Committee for Religious Affairs and the EU delegation in Vietnam held an international workshop to share experience in ensuring freedom of religion. More than 100 scholars participating at the event praised Vietnam’s progress in the promotion and protection of the freedom of religion and human rights.

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Head of the government Committee for Religious Affairs, Pham Dung, said the event reflects Vietnam’s goodwill to boost positive dialogues with the EU on freedom of religion in line with the bilateral partnership and cooperation agreement: “Freedom of religion and beliefs has always been indicated in Vietnam’s Constitution and specific laws and regulations. Numerous religions have been recognized in Vietnam. Religious and beliefs activities are on the rise. Religious followers have actively joined in national construction and defense for a society of prosperity, just and democracy.”

First Secretary and Head of Political Affairs, Press and Information of the EU delegation, Dephine Malard, said the EU commits to protecting religious freedom as part of its foreign affairs policy.
