Themed “Social Protection and agriculture: breaking the cycle of rural poverty”, this year’s celebration focuses on the role of social security in poverty reduction, ensuring food security and nutrition, and improving living conditions for resilient development.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh said: “Vietnam aims to form a social security network by 2020 so that all people will have employment, stable incomes, and social insurance. All people, including the disadvantaged, have access to basic social services such as healthcare, education, housing, clean water, and information, contributing to political stability and socio-economic development. Vietnam pledges to focus resources and the participation of ministries, sectors, localities, and organizations to fulfill the 2030 Agenda and UN sustainable development targets.”
FAO Representative in Vietnam Jong-Ha Bae said that the FAO will continue to support its members to improve rural poverty reduction work through social security integration and scientific application in agriculture.
