UNFPA Chief Representative in Vietnam Arthur Erken said at the event that Vietnam has entered a period of a golden population with a high ratio of young workers - nearly 40% of the country's population is between 10 and 29 years old. This period will last until 2040. This will be an opportunity for Vietnam to boost its socio-economic development by providing young people  with education and support to tap their potential.

Duong Quoc Trong, General Director of the General Department for Population and Family Planning, said Vietnam was realizing World Population Day’s message by implementing the Party and government’s policies on population for the 2011-2020 period. Trong said Vietnam has created the best possible conditions for adolescents and young people to study, research, and participate in cultural and sports activities. He commented: “This year’s message calls on all the ministries and sectors to jointly invest in healthcare, education, and employment. For example, with regard the healthcare, about 30% of youths haven’t been equipped with the knowledge and skills regarding family planning. In the future, we should increase investment in this area to meet their demands.
