Bac Ninh replicates safe water supply models for rural areas

(VOVworld) – In recent years, Bac Ninh has increased safe and sanitary water supplies for rural people funded by the National Target Program for Rural Clean Water and Sanitation, World Bank loans, and social resources. As a result, 98% of the people in Bac Ninh’s rural areas now have access to clean water.

By the end of last year, 36 projects had been completed and put into operation with a capacity of more than 57,000 cubic meters a day, supplying safe water for about 50,500 rural households.

The projects have improved the quality of life for local people, helped to narrow the gap between rural areas and urban centers, and raised awareness of the importance of clean water and a hygienic environment.

Nguyen Dang Khang, Deputy Director of the An Thinh Company in Tu Son town, Bac Ninh, which has invested in the construction of a safe water supply plant there, said: “From the time we began the project until it became operational, we’ve worked closely with local authorities to address all issues.”

“Now we are supplying safe water to all 6 hamlets of Tuong Giang communes and ensuring that all households have access to clean water,” Khang added.

Nguyen Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Training and Electrical Installation Company, which is investing in a water treatment plant in Thuan Thanh district, said:

“During the project, we’ve come to realize that both businesses and private individuals need clean water but the local water is of low quality. That’s the reason why the company’s directors and shareholders have agreed to invest in a social project which is pursuant to the government decision to mobilize social resources to develop residential areas.”

To provide every rural person with sanitary water by the end of the second quarter of next year, Bac Ninh will invest more in constructing water treatment plants. The provincial authorities will try to involve businesses in the construction of safe water supplies for rural people and management to reduce the state’s investment burden.

According to Nguyen Dong Thap, Director of Bac Ninh’s Center for Clean Water and Environmental Sanitation, “Pursuant to the provincial policy of mobilizing social resources, businesses have already invested in clean water supply plants in 52 out of 97 communes. 21 of them have been completed and put into operation. 26 additional projects are under construction and scheduled to be finished by the end of this year. The projects in the remaining five communes have been approved and are mobilizing investors. The main system and its branches leading to the centers of communes will be connected to every household by the second quarter of next year, meaning all communes in Bac Ninh will have clean water.”
