First book street in Hanoi

(VOVWORLD) - Hanoi Book Street, which was officially opened on May Day in December 19th street, Hoan Kiem precinct, is a rendezvous where people can read books, talk to authors, and share their reading interests with others.

On 200-meter-long Hanoi Book Street, which runs from Hai Ba Trung to Ly Thuong Kiet street, are 16 booths that display publications and two stations provide free Internet access to anyone who wants to search for information about books or the history of Hanoi. In the middle of the street is a place to hold meetings and introduce books.

Phan Lan Tu, Director of the Hanoi Municipal Department of Information and Communications, said: “Hanoi Book Street is a creative space for people to interact with books. We’ll establish a management board, work with publishing houses and book companies to create exchanges, introduce books, and obtain copyrights, and organize many more activities to promote reading.”

Nguyen Le My Hoan, Head of the Publishing Office of the Huy Hoang Culture Company, says: “We have books for children and adolescents and books on current affairs. Many publishing houses and booksellers can gather here and share their experience.”

Tran Quang Anh of Bac Tu Liem precinct says: “It’s great to have a book street in Hanoi. It’ll help promote a reading culture. I’m looking for books on human development and I can find many titles here.”
