Hanoi hosts International Experimental Theatre Festival

(VOVworld) – 16 foreign and Vietnamese plays are performed at the 3rd International Experimental Theatre Festival in Hanoi. The week-long event opened on Sunday. Each day 2 or 3 plays are performed, and admission to all plays is free.

The performers are from the Philippines, China, Japan, Germany, France, Greece, Panama, and Vietnam. The Philippines, a representative from ASEAN, contributes an entry called “Pure Love”. Japan brings to the festival The Seagull by the Theatre Centre Without Walls and China has White Snake, performed by the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre and Ramayana by the Henan Beijing Opera Troupe. European entries include "Hotel Paradiso", a German contribution characterized by black humor with a hint of melancholy, France’s Münchhausen Odyssey and “I remember” performed by the Noiti Grammi Theatre Group of Greece. Panama, the sole representative from America, presents “This ship will not float forever.” People’s Artist Le Tien Tho, Chairman of the Vietnam Stage Artists’ Association, said: “A large number of troupes registered this year. We received 39 submissions and selected the most experimental and qualified entries. Experimental theater has proved its vanguard role, which is to reform theater staging, writing, and performing.”

Vietnam contributes 8 plays, including “Truong Ba’s Soul in the Butcher’s Body” premiered by Thang Long Puppetry Theatre, “Nguyen Du with Kiều” performed by the Youth Theatre, and “Hamlet” performed by the Vietnam Drama Theatre.                                  

The 16 plays are performed at the Youth Theatre, the Vietnam Drama Theatre, the Army Drama Theatre, the Workers’ Theatre, Dai Nam Theater, and the Hanoi University of Culture.
