Since September, people travelling across Ninh Hai and Thuan Bac district of Ninh Thuan province have admired three wind turbines of the Dam Nai wind power project. Nguyen Toan Thang, a spokesman for the  wind power project, says: “The province has three new wind turbines. Travelers stop here to take photos. I’m glad Ninh Thuan province has got involved in clean energy.”

Covering an area of 9.6 hectares, the Dam Nai wind power project has a total investment of 80 million USD. Its construction began in April 2017. The wind farm’s turbines were supplied by Spain’s Gamesa. With a capacity of over 2,600 MW and a diameter of 114 metres, they are the largest turbines in Vietnam. Huynh Tan Tu, Deputy Director of the Dam Nai wind power plant, says: “The plant connected to the national grid last month and tests were run on the 2nd and 3rd turbines. Technical indicators met the requirements. In late September the 3rd turbine fed into the national grid on schedule.”

The 2nd phase will begin next year with 15 turbines expected to be in operation by October, bringing the total capacity to 40 MW. Scientists say Ninh Thuan has stable winds of 6.4m/s to 9.6m/s almost all year round. Vietnamese and foreign investors are eyeing more investment in renewable energy in Ninh Thuan.
