(VOVworld) – Paris is preparing to welcome tourists to the European Football Championship, EURO 2016, scheduled to take place from June 10^th to July 10^th. Authorities have placed special importance on tight security.

A curtain-raiser event brought together 500 volunteers for the inauguration of the Paris Sports Park on April 2. The volunteers, wearing T-shirts bearing the words “Team Paris”, gathered at the Hôtel de ville de Paris. They were of all ages and included students, state employees, retires, and unemployed people.  

During the month-long final round of EURO 2016, the volunteers will get and help about 4 million tourists and football fans use public transportation and introduce them to the culture and tourist attractions of Paris.

24 football teams will compete in the EURO 2016 final round. The Paris municipal authority said preparations have been finalized. 10 stadiums will be used, including 4 new stadiums in Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, and Nice.
2 million tickets for 51 matches have been sold, including 1 million tickets sold without restriction and 1 million tickets only for citizens of the 24 countries that have teams competing in the final round. Paris has prepared exhibit sites to introduce the cultures of the 24 participating countries.  France is committed to ensuring the security of matches and football fans.
President of the EURO 2016 Organizing Board Jacques Lambert says 100,000 security staff have been mobilized to protect the 51 matches. Special security measures will protect “fan zones” outside the stadiums in public places with large TV screens.
