Since the 12th National Party Congress in 2016, Vietnam has resolutely intensified the battle against corruption and mobilized the whole political system and the public to join the effort.

52 corruption cases, many of them quite serious, have been dealt with. The figure shows the Party and the State’s determination to fight corruption without reservation.

Positive results

The Party and State have issued several legal documents to strengthen the Party and the political system, combined the fight against corruption with personnel work, tightened discipline within the Party and State apparatus, and harshly punished violations.

A number of especially serious, complicated corruption cases involving high-ranking officials were uncovered and prosecuted. Positive results in anti-corruption efforts have been acknowledged. Nguyen Xuan Hong, a resident of Hai Phong city, said: “The war on corruption has been resolute and effective. I believe in the Party leadership, particularly what Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong is doing. Many senior officials like Dinh La Thang and Trinh Xuan Thanh have been punished.”

The fight against corruption has helped reduce corruption and purify the Party and State apparatus and the political system as a whole. Professor Hoang Chi Bao, a former member of the Central Theoretical Council, said: “President Ho Chi Minh paid special attention to combating bureaucracy, corruption, and individualism considering them internal enemies. It is a big risk for a ruling Party to stay aloof from the people and ordinary life or to make decisions that don’t benefit the people. A pure Party will stay strong.”

The national conference on anti-corruption in Hanoi is an opportunity to consider shortcomings and seek more effective ways to fight corruption.
