Post-Brexit essential issue for European Medicines Agency and European Banking Authority

(VOVWORLD) - The European Commission has published an assessment of offers to host the European Banking Authority and European Medicines Agency. The report stresses elements that will ensure the best performance of the agencies after the UK leaves the European Union.

The report says the 27 EU members will decide which city will host the European Banking Authority (EBA) and European Medicines Agency (EMA).

Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Paris, and Prague all want to host the EBA. The report say judging criteria should include infrastructure, accessibility, and staffing considerations.

The search for a city to receive the EMA is facing many difficulties. A survey has revealed that personnel at both agencies are ready to quit if they don’t like their new head office.

The EMA says less than 30% of its employees want to work in a new office. That is not enough people to keep the agency operating. Moving the EMA to a new office will make scientific testing and oversight of medicines used for humans and domestic animals more difficult.

Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Lille, Stockholm, and Barcelona want to host the EMA.

The final decision will be announced in November following a secret vote.
