(VOVWORLD) -The 3rd session of the 14th National Assembly draws to a close on Wednesday after 4 weeks. The session approved important draft laws and decide major socio-economic issues. The National Assembly reformed to seek better solutions to agriculture, healthcare, and public investment boost economic growth.

This National Assembly session showed a sense of reform, unity, and innovation and its actions have served the interest of the people and the nation. The deputies discussed public opinions on legislation and oversight.

Lawmaking and reform of oversight activities

The National Assembly’s 3rdsession continued to specify contents of the Constitution and fine tune regulations on the socialist-oriented market economy and economic restructuring to lay a firm legal foundation for socio-economic development in the new period. The Assembly approved 12 draft laws regarding human rights, civil rights, production, and socio-economic management, and 12 resolutions, and discussed 6 draft laws. A resolution on handling bad debts will take effect on August 15, 2017. Nguyen Ngoc Phuong, Deputy Head of Quang Binh province’s National Assembly delegation, said: “Resolutions and draft laws approved at this session, like the resolution on handling bad debts, will have a strong influence on society.”

The National Assembly deputies thoroughly discussed the draft laws before voting to adopt them. Ton Ngoc Hanh, Deputy Head of Binh Phuoc province’s National Assembly delegation, said: “The deputies have shown a sense of responsibility in studying documents to improve the laws. We had group and plenary discussions and seminars with experts from all cities and provinces to ensure the laws’ feasibility.”

The National Assembly’s oversight function has focused on the enforcement of the law and food safety. The Q&A session was extended to 3 days.

Democratic discussion and flexible operation

Joining the Q&A session, the Ministers and deputies frankly and democratically discussed issues, draft laws, and resolutions. Nguyen Van Hien, a deputy for Lam Dong province, said: “The deputies and the cabinet members have thoroughly analyzed issues to work out better solutions to economic management. I hope the duration of the Q&A session will be more than 3 days.”

Nguyen Ngoc Phuong, Deputy Head of Quang Binh province’s National Assembly delegation, said: “The presidium well operated the Q&A session to allow representatives from all provinces to raise their opinions. The questions were selective and straightforward. We had hot debates before reaching consensus.”
