Smart tech increases farmers’ income

(VOVWORLD) - Farmers applying high-technology to production should collaborate with enterprises to ensure an outlet rather than calling for “public rescue”. Agricultural experts and businesspeople agreed to this idea at a seminar on solutions for high-tech agriculture organized by Vietnam National University of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The seminar heard reports on the application of scientific innovative ideas in agriculture. Scientists can see how a rice grain grows by using 3D technology. It helps them decide production methods, select seeds and breeding, minimize risks, and increase efficiency and quality. Using biosensors in vegetable and fruit production, farmers in Da Lat learn how the plant grows in order to apply the right amount of water and fertilizer to produce high yields. Scientists have inserted electronic sensors into cows to detect their rutting time and increase breeding efficiency.

Professor Nguyen Quang Thach, President of the Scientific Council of the National University of Agriculture, said scientists of the Agricultural Biology Academy discovered a potato variety for which one root can produce a hundred potatoes. Farmers in Thai Binh, Bac Ninh, and Nam Dinh province have harvested good crops using the University’s seeds. Professor Thach said technology can control plant growth and increase productivity 300%.

Vietnamese scientists have been successful in food processing and preservation technology to produce fruit juice with the original nutrient values and flavor. Rector of Hue Agriculture College Cung Trong Cuong said technology is the key to increasing productivity, reducing production costs, and producing healthful and environmentally friendly products.
