The highlight of this year’s celebration was a parade by the Russian armed forces in Red Square, involving the newest military vehicles and weapons, including the Terminator armored combat vehicle, Tornado Rocket Artillery, and advanced supersonic weapons.

All combat vehicles in the parade were decorated with Saint Gregory Ribbons, a symbol of Russian patriotism. The weapons included Uran-6 robotic demining systems, Uran-9 tracked unmanned combat vehicles, Korsar unmanned aerial vehicles, Iskander-M mobile short-range ballistic missile systems, and S-400 missile systems.

One of the most spectacular parts of the Victory Day Parade in Red Square was a massive fly-over of 73 aircraft, including warplanes, frontline bombers, and refueling aircrafts. This is the first year the Sukhoi Su-57 5th generation fighter and the new Russian Korsar tactical surveillance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) have taken part in the parade.

Parades were held in 28 other cities across Russia. More than 700 people participated in the Immortal Regiment march in central Washington last Saturday. A similar march was held in New York, involving 2,000 people who laid floral wreaths, took a minute of silence in memory of departed relatives, and released white balloons. Marches were held in more than 20 US cities this year, attracting more than 6,000 people.

In Africa, an Immortal Regiment march was organized in Zambia’s capital Lusaka for the first time. Half of the participants used to study in Russia.

The victory of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany 73 years ago will always be part of the history of mankind. It saved the world from fascism.
