Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong pointed out recent major shortcomings of the Politburo and the Secretariat. They have failed to prevent moral lapses in some cadres and party members and have not paid adequate attention to promptly attending to negative developments in personnel matters. Further, instructions for implementing the PCC’s resolutions and vague, especially in state-owned enterprises, has been confusing and loosen. The Politburo and the Secretariat have taken responsibility for the shortcomings, apologized, and asked for appropriate discipline. The public has applauded their behavior, which shows their sincere commitment to improvement. Tran Khai Dinh who works at Tay Nguyen University says: "The honest and straightforward attitude of the Politburo and the Secretariat’s  shows the Party’s determination to implement the resolution of the 4th Party Central Committee to improve the Party’s capability to lead the people to further successes. I’m proud and rely on the Party’s leadership."

Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong’s speech at the closing session made it clear that through self-criticism, criticism, and listening to the opinions of the cadres, party members and people, the Politburo, the Secretariat, and each member of the Politburo and the Secretariat have a better awareness of their strong points and shortcomings. Members of the Politburo and the Secretariat clearly understand, and regret their shortcomings, and mistakes, and recognize the need to be stricter with themselves, continue to study and practice to improve their knowledge, reform their working style, and be a model of morality and unity. Many cadres have reviewed themselves and initially adjusted some behaviors in their work and daily life.

The public agree and believe that members of the Communist Party of Vietnam will correct their own weaknesses and fulfill their duties. Nguyen Duc Toan is a senior party member in Hanoi. "It’s laudable behavior for a ruling Party. It has realized its faults and had the courage to admit its shortcomings. It is taking steps to correct its mistakes. These problems have existed for a long time and can’t be solved in a few days. No-one should have such an illusion," Toan says.

The Communist Party of Vietnam insists that, more than ever, it’s critical to foster unity and belief in the Party’s ability to guide the people through hard times. The 6th PCC plenum concluded that after the self-criticism and criticism movement, the Politburo and the Secretariat was better prepared to solve pressing issues, encourage positive behavior, and tighten discipline to deter negative behavior in the Party. It will strengthen the people’s trust and social consensus toward a common cause of national construction and defense.
