Trade Union organizations are collaborating with local authorities and businesses to organize exchanges, sporting events, and performances for employees who cannot return home during the Lunar New Year holiday. Kieu Hung, Head of the Law and Policy Department of the Hanoi Confederation of Labour, said the Department will organize a “Tet get-together” for workers who stay in Hanoi during Tet and will give free tickets to 1,400 others so they can go home.

“The Trade Union will help disadvantaged workers to enjoy Tet. The Hanoi Confederation of Labour will hand out 1,000 gifts.  We have told Trade Union organizations at all levels to give out bonuses.”

The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) has collected information of payment and bonus of businesses in order to have prompt support for disadvantaged people. VGCL representative Vu Manh Tiem said: “Almost every business has reported paying an extra month’s salary to their employees. The average payment is 200 USD. We have worked with companies, that have had production difficulties, to share their burden.”

Nguyen Thi Thanh Hue, a representative for Canon Vietnam at the Thang Long Industrial Zone, said Canon will pay bonuses to 22,000 workers, arrange vehicles to take them home, and will organize art performances for those who remain at the company.

“We haven’t announced our bonuses, but they will be higher than the average for the Thang Long Industrial Zone. Bonuses will depend on each worker’s performance. They will receive a bonus equivalent to one and a half to three month salary.”
