Vietnam Cinematography Association rewards creativity

(VOVworld)- The Vietnam Cinematography Association will hold its annual Canh Dieu (Kite) award ceremony in Hanoi on April 20th to honour the year’s best films, directors and actors of 2015. For 15 years , the Kite awards have been a much-anticipated event.

Among the 18 films vying for a Kite awards are  “The climax of soundness” (Trên đỉnh bình yên) and “Yến’s life” (Cuộc đời của Yến) produced by the Vietnam Feature Film Company; “Forest path” (Đường xuyên rừng) by the Giai Phong Film Company; “Returner” (Người trở về) by the People’s Army Cinema Agency; “I see yellow flowers on green grass” (Tôi thấy hoa vàng trên cỏ xanh) by the Cinematography Department and Galaxy Company; and “Quyên” by the Viet Film Company. All of films produced by the private sector cover a range of genres. Playwright Nguyễn Thị Hồng Ngát comments: “We all know that the film “I see yellow flowers on green grass” is doing well at the box office and has won prizes at national film festivals. “Yến’s life” is a sensitive portrayal of a Vietnamese woman while “Quyên” is about Vietnamese expatriates. There are also films like “Beautiful women” (Mỹ nhân) portraying Vietnam’s leaders, the revolution and history”.

The films competing this year are of consistently high quality. “Returner” tells the emotional story of a Vietnamese woman in the post-war era. The film “Forest path” describes perilous forest crossings by and chance encounters during the war. The best-known nominee is “I see yellow flowers on green grass”, which already won a Golden Lotus prize at the 19th National Film Festival.

Nominees for the best actor award include Trọng Khang who plays Tường in “I see yellow flowers on green grass” and People’s Artist Bùi Bài Bình forthe film “The foreteller” (Nhà tiên tri). Best actress nominees include  Thúy Hằng for “Yến’s life” and Lã Thanh Huyền for “Returner”. Journalist Nguyễn Toan of Tiền Phong newspaper said:  “Before watching “Returner”, the media was barely aware of Lã Thanh Huyền whose previous performances in TV dramas and a few minor film roles have been insignificant. But in “Returner”, Lã Thanh Huyền is totally different”.

The public is eagerly waiting to see who will carry off a prestigious Kite award.
