Vietnam hosts ASEM Conference on Innovative Education & Human Resource Building

(VOVworld)-A 2-day ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) conference will begin in Hue city on Thursday to discuss innovative education and human resource building for sustainable development. The event is initiated by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc under the sponsorship of five ASEM members: Finland, India, Indonesia, Japan and the Republic of Korea.

The conference is the most important event under the framework of ASEM hosted by Vietnam in 2017 to realize the Vietnamese Prime Minister’s initiative adopted at the 11th ASEM Summit in Mongolia. The meeting provides a platform for ASEM partners to validate best practices in promoting quality and innovative education for human resource development and consolidate proposals for ASEM’s new Vision for Education, including ASEM’s new Skills Agenda, and concrete measures to equip the younger generation with 21st-century skills and qualities needed to achieve a skilled, adaptable and professional workforce in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.

It aims to strengthen Asia-Europe cooperation in handling issues related to education, labour, employment, and human resource development, and propose an ASEM education and human resource development vision and new skills program towards sustainable and comprehensive growth to contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.

The role of education and human resource in the digital era

International integration has benefited Vietnam’s education and training but also poses major challenges for the sector, particularly in building highly-competitive human resources for the domestic and global labor markets.

“A global citizen must master two essential skills: English and IT. Computer science has become popular in Vietnam and some domestic firms have developed software for export. But we should have an urgent and strategic policy to teach English to a wider public,” said Tran Van Nhung, former Vice Minister of Education and Training, said:

Le Dong Phuong, Director of the Center for Higher and Technical-Vocational Education at Vietnam Institute of Education Sciences, said:

“The Government has adopted human resource development planning at national and local levels to help Vietnam’s education and training meet new demands. The National Assembly has promulgated the Law on Higher Education to elevate education and training to international standards”.

Enhancing international cooperation in human resource development

Vietnam is learning from developed countries in Asia and Europe to promote innovative education, high-quality human resources, IT application, and vocational training. The hosting of the  ASEM Conference on Innovative Education and Human Resource Building  proves Vietnam’s active international integration and its emphasis on education and training.
