Vietnam, Laos strengthen bilateral friendship

(VOVWORLD) - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh will make an official visit to Laos and co-chair a Vietnam-Lao Foreign Ministers’ Political Consultation on Tuesday and Wednesday, a continuation of the Vietnam-Lao Friendship Year 2017.

Vietnam and Laos have maintained regular exchanges of high-ranking visits over the years in order to solidify mutual trust and have signed several strategic agreements to deepen bilateral ties.

Bilateral ties enhanced

The two countries have paid special attention to educating the younger generation about the tradition, significance, and importance of their special ties. A number of activities were organized during the Vietnam-Lao Friendship Year 2017. Don Tuan Phong, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, said: “Last year, we organized several activities to celebrate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 40th anniversary of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty on Amity and Cooperation. These activities included exchanges of delegations of veteran volunteers, veteran experts, and young people, the publication of a special journal in Vietnamese and Lao called “Sharing the Truong Son range.”

Vietnam and Laos have worked together at regional and global forums like the UK, ASEAN, and Sub-region cooperation mechanisms, which have helped to raise the two countries’ global status.

Fostering Vietnam-Laos ties is a top priority

In a complex world, the Vietnam-Lao relationship faces numerous difficulties and challenges. But both countries are determined to foster their bilateral ties. Former Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Ta Minh Chau said: “Changes around the world are unpredictable. It is in that context that Vietnam and Laos need to leverage their special bilateral ties. The closer the ties are, the greater the benefit.  If they remain stable and strong, so will the ASEAN Community.”

Vietnamese and Lao leaders have repeatedly affirmed their determination to enhance political ties, strengthen mutual trust and teach the younger generation about the history and value of their bilateral ties.
