Acai Bowl-simple but perfect breakfast

(VOVWORLD) - Acai is a superfood berry from South America and the acai bowl is essentially a smoothie topped with fresh fruit and some granola. Acai bowls look like ice cream, and almost taste like ice cream! They make you feel good about your breakfast choice.

A: Welcome to this week’s edition of VOV 24/7’s“Food delight”. We are very happy to be here to share our recipes with you.

B: Hello, you guys. In Vietnam, the early start of school and work means breakfast is usually rushed. If it’s 7 a.m. when your stomach is rumbling and your work is calling, but you still have no idea what to eat, we suggest you try the “Acai bowl”, which is delicious, healthy, but takes only a few minutes.
A: Acai is a superfood berry from South America and the acai bowl is essentially a smoothie topped with fresh fruit and some granola. Acai bowls look like ice cream, and almost taste like ice cream. They make you feel good about your breakfast choice.
B: The bowl combines a variety of fruits to create a unique and colorful breakfast that many can’t get enough of. I mean, how could anyone resist something so colorful as that?
A: Totally agreed. For me, the Acai bowl is a fun trick to get my children to eat more fruit. My daughter often turns up her nose at an orange or an apple, but is totally excited to try this fruit bowl.
B: An Acai bowl gives you plenty of energy to kick off the morning, and more importantly, it’s super easy to make. The best part is that you can make it completely on your own, depending on what fruit you have in your fridge. Andrew Diatroftoff from San Fransisco, California, shows us how easy this homemade acai bowl can be.
“This is one of the staples of the varidiet, and it’s very good. The Acai is a berry from South America. It’s very simple. You buy the Acai, you have to buy it as you can’t make it. When a frozen acai puree is blended with liquid, it turns smooth and creamy like frozen yogurt. It’s very good for you, very high in antioxidants so it doesn’t spike your sugar,” Andrew said.

A: There’re two forms of acai berries that you can choose from: frozen smoothie packs or freeze dried powder. In Vietnam, the acai powder is available at supermarkets and health food stores. 

B: All you need is a blender and voilà, you’ve got a homemade Acai berry bowl. You can blend acai packets with frozen banana, pineapple, or mango as those frozen fruits make the smoothie delightfully creamy and sweet. 

“And you just pour the smoothie into a bowl and you throw different nuts in there, different granola, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, bananas and honey. So you just mix them all together and enjoy. You can eat it every morning. It’s good for health and everyone can make it,” Andrew again.

A: An Acai smoothie is a perfect opportunity to get creative with your toppings. I stick to toppings that I normally have in my fridge like banana, mango, or pineapple. 

B: For toppings, I go with sliced bananas, berries, coconut, and sunflower seeds. Since the acai powder is naturally really low in sugar, you might need to add a little honey or agave to sweeten it up, or maybe use fruit which has a sweet flavor.

A: An Acai bowl would make a perfect breakfast or snack for days when you don’t have much time or it’s too hot to cook. Unlike other smoothies, this acai bowl keeps well in the refrigerator for several days, so feel free to make some more and enjoy the leftovers later.
